Description
When good dogs do bad things, they aren't necessarily problem dogs, but dogs with problems. "And sooner or later, every dog will exhibit some kind of problem," says Matthew Margolis, founder of the National Institute of Dog Training. Forget the rolled up newspaper, Woof! A Guide to Dog Training provides an easy-to-use method to train the dog in your life using a sane and loving approach to dog obedience. Woof! brings you out to the training ground as well as into do's and dont's for training various breeds and personality types; demonstrates the "tools of the trade" and the skills needed to work with your dog humanely; and provides clear and accessible solutions to some of the most common problems. Mostly, Woof! will dispel common training myths and give you the practical knowledge needed to strengthen the bond between you and your four footed best friend. Matthew Margolis has been reprogramming dogs for 25 years and is a noted "trainer to the stars." Margolis is also known as the pet specialist on NBC's Saturday Today Show, and is the co-author of eight books on dog training.

4 out of 5 stars A must have for all dog owners   March 12, 2004

This video gives a wonderful foundation for how your dog should be trained. It's amazing how he was able to break some bad habits in such a short amount of time. The only negative with this video is that doesn't cover everything. He covers the following commands and or issues: heel w/automatic sit, mouthing, sit, leash breaking, overy submissive dogs and overly aggressive dogs. I would have liked it if he demonstrated all of his commands, i.e. sit, stay, come, lay down etc. That being said, I certainly can figure it out based on Uncle Matties approach so it's definitely worth getting. Excellent video!!!

3 out of 5 stars Overall vague but does have a couple of tips   December 7, 1999

I thought the video was more about showing how well Matty can train a dog versus actually showing me how to train my dog. It had a couple of useful tips but alot of issues are dealt with very quickly without any real depth. good video to start with.

5 out of 5 stars Uncle Matty shows how to teach your dog right!   June 27, 1999

From his initial bonding with each dog to covering each training command, Matthew Margolis takes a no-nonsense approach to training the people as well as the dogs. His methods emphasize praise and affection, rather than harshness. He demonstrates effectively that most training problems are generated by the owner, rather than the dog, and shows how to communicate effectively to establish a good working relationship with each type of dog. If you have a dog, or if you want a dog, this is a must-see video.

1 out of 5 stars A very unfriendly approach to dog training   June 4, 1999

Whereas Mr. Margolis has an abundance of video charisma WITH PEOPLE, his dog 'training methods' are VERY unfriendly. Why do dogs let him do this stuff? It's cruel.
