Product Description Bestselling author Cesar Millan takes his principles of dog psychology a step further, showing you how to develop the calm-assertive energy of a successful pack leader and use it to improve your dog’s life–and your own.
Filled with practical tips and techniques as well as real-life success stories from his clients (including the Grogan family, owners of Marley from Marley & Me) and his popular television show Dog Whisperer with Cesar Millan, Cesar helps you understand and read your dog’s energy as well as your own so that you can move beyond just correcting behavioral issues and take your connection with your dog to the next level.
The principles of calm-assertive energy will help you become a better pack leader in every area of your life, improving your relationships with friends, family, and coworkers.
In addition, Cesar addresses several important issues for the first time, including what you need to know about the major dog behavior tools available and the difference between “personality” and “instability.”
Ultimately, what emerges from Be the Pack Leader are both happier dogs and happier, more centered owners.

Worth reading numerous times December 31, 2008 Trustina Guilliams (Saturn) I enjoyed watching his tv show and finally ordered this book due to my husband buying me a new puppy. I wanted to train Sgt (new one) right. I wasn't going to end up with another Diablo (older dog). I had antisipated this book to only help with Sgt. Diablo and I had a love hate relationship. I loved to hate that dog. He was obsessed with female dogs when they went in heat. There was no way of controling him, he whined all the time, etc. He wouldn't come, listen, tore up everything, etc. I really urged my husband to get rid of the dog. Was tempted to get rid of him while my husband wasn't home and claim it took off. After taking some of the instructions of the book and putting them into my life, Diablo acted different... a huge difference. So much of one that other people could tell right away. They asked if I had the dog on drugs, some kind of ritalin meds. Lol. He walks beside me, no more lunging away or dragging me. I can let him go in front and saying his name makes him stop and wait for me to catch up or he walks back to me. There is no more spraying every single blade of grass he finds, now he waits till I tell him to go. He has became an excellent role model for Sgt. Now I love this dog and could not imagine my life without him. I have reread this book several times. It's worth keeping incase you need a fresh up on the skills. It not only changes your dog, but it changes you as well. You'll notice not only does your dog improve, your life, your family does as well. Best dog book I have read!!!!!!!
Great Dog Man but enough with the psychobabble December 29, 2008 Patricia Lawry (Nashville TN) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I'm about halfway thru the book and altho' I believe Millan to be a great dog man and appreciate that he has saved many dogs from both death (in the case of fighters) and moronic owners, the book itself gets annoying after a while. Cesar should stick to dogs and leave the psychobabble to the shrinks, and what's with the quotes everywhere anyway. What is it with writers lately, can't they "see" that "this" is "extremely annoying"? All he really has to say is stand up straight, tell your dog, don't plead with him, don't allow him to have bad manners, and mean what you say. And then tell us how to do that. His methods work great - tailored for the dog that is. If you have a mild, docile dog, you don't need to do everything he does. If you have an aggressive biter, his methods are a godsend. To be fair, it is good of him to be willing to share his God-given talent with the rest of us who want to be good with dogs but don't know how. Many gifted dog men will not share their knowledge so you will have to come to them, with lots of money of course. Cesar gets my respect but I sure wish he'd lay off the L.A. touchy-feely pap.
It`s useful. December 28, 2008 Marlena (Las Vegas, NV) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I use some of the methods he showed in his show and books, and most of them works. I wish there would be a little bit more of the dogs behavioral issues cases and how to work on them. I use the mentioned energy of the pack leader and it works, not only on my dogs. I have a 2 boston terriers, they`re hyper and a little bit of excitement leads to aggression, thanks to a Caesar`s tips I have no more fights at home (from at least 1 everyday to maybe 1 a month), and I mean fights to blood big time. I recommend this book, but I want to try something different to, just to compare (some positions are mentioned in low stars reviews).
Reiteration of "Cesar's way" December 26, 2008 sergioww (Spain) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I like Cesar Millan's approach and methods. This is the reason I read Cesar's way (which I enjoyed) and susequently I got "Be the pack leader". I was thoroughly dissapointed after finishing "Be the pack leader" since I felt that it is nothing but a reiteration of the same principles described in the first book, illustrated sometimes with the very same examples. The only part I thought to be more practical was the final appendix (pages 261 to 297)with tips on how to materialize being a pack leader for your dog. Other than that, if you already read "Cesar's way" I would suggest that you save your money and time and get a different book.
