Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Create a wireless network to share high-speed Internet access with computers, game consoles, or media players from greater distances in your home or office. Using D-Link Xteme-N wireless products makes it really easy!
The D-Link DIR-655 Xtreme N Gigabit Router is a draft 802.11n compliant device that delivers up to 14x faster speeds and 6x farther range than 802.11g while staying backward compatible with 802.11g and 802.11b devices. Connect the Xtreme N Gigabit Router to a cable or DSL modem and provide high-speed Internet access to multiple computers, game consoles, and media players. Create a secure wireless network to share photos, files, music, videos, printers, and network storage.
With some routers, all wired and wireless traffic, including VoIP, Video Streaming, Online Gaming, and Web browsing are mixed together into a single data stream. By handling data this way, applications like video streaming could pause or delay. With D-Link's Intelligent QoS Technology, wired and wireless traffic is analyzed and separated into multiple data streams. These streams are then categorized by sensitivity to delay, so applications like VoIP, Video Streaming, and Online Gaming are given priority over Web browsing. This enables multiple applications to stream smoothly to your TV or PC. Delivering best-in-class performance, network security, and coverage, this router is the ideal centerpiece for your wireless network in the home or office. Backward compatible with 802.11g and 802.11b devices including game consoles and digital media players

5 out of 5 stars The Linksys Killer   December 1, 2008
J. M. (New York, NY, USA)
A few months ago when I decided to go wireless I went thru various Linksys wireless routers with so much frustration. The signal was not strong enough and it would not be consistent, it would go in and out. I went for Linksys because I worked on the Cisco HPR account and just wanted to support a client by being a client but I even bought the fancy Ferrari looking ones, the most expensive one, then the cheaper one, and even the older blue box looking one. The guy at J&R suggested D-Link. I was like what? I never heard of that. I took it home and it was so easy to setup thanks to the included software called Pure Networks Network Magic. It worked so good, strong signal that reached much farther away than any Linksys consumer router. I was now able to use it across the street in the park. I also purchased the D-Link DWA-140 RangeBooster Draft 802.11n N Wireless USB Adapter to attach my neighbors computer to my network and it works flawlessly. I highy recommend going with this setup instead of Linksys.

5 out of 5 stars Worth EVERY penny!   November 30, 2008

I was beyond frustrated with my Internet connection so I decided to invest in a better router. OMG! It is fabulous... flawless connection! I highly recommend it!

5 out of 5 stars This is probably the best router ever   November 29, 2008
Manuel Cardoza (San Francisco, CA)
it definitely was not the easiest to setup but the results are amazing. I'm on my laptop in the other room and the pages load up instantly, in the blink of an eye and it doesn't slow down our PC when my roommate is downloading a video simultaneously. so worth ever penny. of course i got it at a huge discount here at amazon. 85% off so i paid just under $100. mega score

5 out of 5 stars Good Results   November 29, 2008

We used this to make our church's office wireless and got good results despite the fact that it is a brick building with thick walls.

1 out of 5 stars Not a good wireless router...   November 27, 2008

I "traded up" to the DIR-655. It was no faster than my previous cheaper router. It won't work with Linux, and is difficult to configure with other systems (Mac Intel, XP, and Linux). The set up can be confusing: you log in with a browser, but there are multiple screens and lots of resets to get anywhere. The range and speed are average. After a couple of months and poor technical support, I've decided to give it up and buy something less frustrating. Really wasted my money.
