Holy chihuahua April 28, 2007 8 out of 36 found this review helpful
I'm pretty well-known in animal circles and respected for my opinion, so I just wanted everyone of my peers to know that I give Tamara my fullest endorsement possible. I appreciate her style with doggies.
Tamara is a big advocate of playful petting and nonagressive tactics. I have been given many awards for having an open mind and would not have a problem with anything like that if she's up for it.
Great Idea! I Love My Dogs. Great Method. April 27, 2007 22 out of 31 found this review helpful
I just love her honesty and intelligent training philosophy. Dogs shouldn't be treated like human beings because they are NOT human... but they are living, breathing, and feeling animals. Like humans love goes much further than yelling, screaming, and beating. Training a dog how to behave is something that makes the dog happier and healthy. Rules, Boundaries, and Limitations as the Dog Whisperer says. You should never yell or scream if you want anyone to do anything even dogs. Pick up this book if you're having trouble understanding how to train you doggy.
Didn't want to read it, but glad I did April 26, 2007 27 out of 36 found this review helpful
OK, so I'm on vacation and my wife keeps reading me excerpts of this book from a lady she saw on oprah... at first I think, she's just reading me the highlights. But they just seemed to keep coming, and we started seeing how we treat our dog. I thought I'll try reading the first few pages, seeing as I'm on holiday from a full tax season... anyway I picked up the book - and WOW, what can I say - this lady really has some insight in to changing a dog's behavior. She had me after the first 3 pages. Thanks for providing an easy and practical read - to help with our home life.
Yes! This is THE book for dog lovers and owners! April 26, 2007 23 out of 30 found this review helpful
This book is great! I've never written a review before, and after seeing Tamar Geller interviewed on "[...]", I went, bought the book, and read it cover to cover. The emphasis on "listening" to your dog and paying attention to your dog's needs in a loving, nurturing way, is so needed. Instead of us training our dogs and trying to "humanize" them, this is a way for our dogs to live in our lives in the most loving, supportive way. Tamar really gets that dogs unconditionally love us, and WANT to please, because it's their nature - not because they need to be scared or exhausted, and in that way, unnaturally forced to "obey" us. I highly recommend this book to anyone who's ever had a dog, or who is thinking of getting their first pet.
The Loved Dog April 26, 2007 26 out of 33 found this review helpful
I strongly recommend this book. It's much more than just a training manual. It's about how to show love to your dog. The author's story about her not knowing how to use the toilet in Bangkok almost broke my heart, for it demonstrated the confusion that all dogs must feel when being house-trained, yet reminded me how severe I used to be with my own dogs' "mistakes". They want to please you, but they don't know what to do! Plus, her observations of wolf behavior clearly demonstrate that you don't have to be aggressive to train your dog.
I guarantee that, after reading this book, you'll be a lot more understanding of your dog's behavior, a lot more patient and, if possible, you'll love your dog even more!
