A Brief, Concise Guide to Establishing Gentle Leadership April 8, 2007 Nicole Wilde (California) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
As a professional dog trainer, Patricia McConnell's booklets are one of the materials that I hand out to clients. Unlike some of the force-based methods that have unfortunately made a resurgence lately, McConnell clearly (and often humorously) explains how to establish leadership without using physical force. Her writing style is straightforward and down-to-earth, which makes digesting the information effortless. Anyone looking for an in-depth book should purchase The Other End of the Leash by McConnell as well, but this booklet is an excellent resource in and of itself, and I highly recommend it along with all of her other publications. - Nicole Wilde, author Help for Your Fearful Dog: A Step-by-Step Guide to Helping Your Dog Conquer His Fears and So You Want to be a Dog Trainer (2nd edition)
How to be the Leader of the Pack...And have your dog love you for it. March 21, 2007 Red Poodle 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I was suprised when I received such a little book. However, I was really suprised when I read it ...So much important information in such a little book. This is a must read for the person who really loves their dog. After reading this book you will have a much better understanding of your canine friend.

I got this book as well as 2 others by Cesare Milan for my daughter who got a new 18 mo old mix. The more she read the more she was impressed and came to understand that dogs aren't human and have their own way of interpreting life.

Vauge platitudes designed for sale to frustrated pet owners; worth less than a bowl of pet food.
A good read March 8, 2007 Bob Fitzsimmons (New York City) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This book is useful and a fun read, but there's a lot more to understanding your dog. I recommend "Adam's Task: Calling Animals by Name," by Vicki Hearne, which combines animal training with philosophy and literary criticism. If you are an animal trainer-- or even just an animal lover-- it's definitely worth checking out.
