5 out of 5 stars A must have for any puppy owner!!!   May 3, 2006

This book is a must get for anyone who plans to get a puppy!!! It has clear step by step instructions on how to pick out a good breeder, a great pup, and how to properly raise your new family member so he or she can be a life long companion. This book has problem solving techniques for every stage your new puppy will go through. I cannot rave enough about this book. The way I see it, it should come with a guarentee because after reading this you'll never return it!

3 out of 5 stars Not for Dachshunds   April 7, 2006

This book is ok. It has some useful advice that I have tried on my dachshund but it is mostly for big dogs like German shepherds. So I give it 3 stars as I was expecting more over all for any dog in general. Dachshunds are kind of hard headed. I have learned the most about dog training from Caesar Millan The Dog Whisperer. I hope I am spelling that right. I have seen his shows on tv and he is amazing with dogs! And the dog psychology works. Look him up I think Amazon has books by him as well.

The Monks of New Skete are truly devoted to their dogs. I learned to anticipate my dogs needs and to partner with them in this life,so that all will benefit.I highly recommend this book to both new pupppy owners and those who have had dogs before,You can teach and old "dog owner New tricks".

So far (we've had our puppy two months) this book has been very helpful. Lots of good basic advice and as problems come up, they have had several approaches to correcting them.
