I had been told that Cesar Millan is an effective trainer, regardless of whether or not you agree with his techniques. Believing something could be learned from watching any good trainer, I decided to check out this video. I was very interested to see how he handled dogs and what techniques were broadly applicable to helping problem dogs. The only thing I learned, though, was what NOT to do!
I was stunned to watch Cesar do things that put the owners in danger, and make novice mistakes with aggressive dogs. In one case, he nearly got a child bitten because he did something that any beginning dog trainer would know not to do. Given all the wonderful things I've heard about him, I never imagined he would do anything so unprofessional and irresponsible.
I saw very little effective training (note that at least twice Cesar was called back because the dog wasn't "fixed".) I saw a lot of questionable actions, dangerous choices, and even flat-out lying (saying a dog was calm when it was clearly very scared and nervous). The only thing good I can say about Cesar is that he is great with the people. A lot of dog trainers could learn from him in that realm!
Maybe Cesar is a better trainer when not dealing with aggressive dogs. I was so disturbed by what I saw on this video that I couldn't bear to watch his other videos. All I can say is please use this video for nothing more than personal entertainment, if you like this sort of thing. If you have an aggressive dog that needs help, please contact a professional dog trainer with lots of experience and avoid Cesar's dangerous techniques.

I love Cesar! He really understands the dog mind. I've used many of his techniques in my doggy day care and I use them because they work! Great stuff!

Take an unruly, hard to manage oet. Check. Go to video store and book store and purchase DVD and book from The Dog Whisperer. Check. Read book and listen to tape. Check.
The end result? A pooch that is almost managable and actually even comes when I call (70% of the time), which is more than I ever thought I'd see from this hound.

Ceasar readily handles tempermental dogs with skill and confidence, giving owners sound advice. Don't try this approach without the help of a professional trainer knowledgeable about handling aggression.

This video was helpful. As with any training it needs to be reviewed periodically to reinforce the training.
