easy way to make the click sound softer September 10, 2008 Crazy Glue (USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Some reviewers mentioned the click was too loud. And I must admit it is indeed loud. I was very aprehensive about purchasing it because of this problem. However, I heard so much praise about clicker training that I bought it with the intention of muffling the sound by adhering some sound absorbing materials to the clicker to reduce the loudness of the click. Well, as soon as I got my hands on it I discovered an easy way to reduce the loudness of the click. Here is how: Simply place the clicker with the orange button facing down on or just before that fatty tissue part of your palm that the thumb extends out of. Then apply firm pressure to the back side of the clicker by folding your four fingers on top the clicker. Make the pressure just firm enough so that clicker sound holes are pressing against the fatty tissue of your palm, then when needed just apply a little more pressure with the four fingers on the back of the clicker to make it click. If you have the clicker positioned at the proper angle the lanyard hole will be inline with the middle of your wrist.
Down Boy, Click, Hurray! August 11, 2008 A. Montano (Texas) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Clickers Rock. I just finished training my first dog a bunch a tricks which would have taken much longer without the use of a clicker. Dogs seem to really get the idea behind the clicker quick, which makes your training sessions much more efficient. The quality of this clicker has been great, and the tips that come with the package were helpful. If training a dog, this is a must.
Good product until my dog ate it July 21, 2008 Jessica E. Burress (Indianapolis, IN) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Only had this for about 3 hours before my dog found it unattended on the coffee table and ate it. But it was crafted very well and the clicker was loud.
very hardy but not good for small dogs June 11, 2008 B. Barton (Scott Depot, WV USA) 2 out of 5 found this review helpful
I had recently heard of clicker training back when my parents brought home a new puppy for their anniversary. I had trained their previous dog and was excited to do the same for the new one so I went out to petsmart to buy a clicker. They only sold one model, this one. I was a little put off by the sticker price of $5, but decided to purchase it anyway. Training is important and while 5 dollars for an item that is made just to make a noise was a little expensive, I knew it would be worth the investment for the good of the dog after all. Grabbing a bag of small training tidbit treats I headed home excited to start the training with the young pup. Unfortunately when I got home I was in for a surprise. While the dog liked the training treats the clicker scared him to death! I don't mean he jumped slightly. He would literally run from the room tail tucked and whimpering. Even the temptation of the treats wouldn't bring him back. I thought he might just be too young, so I put the clicker away for a few months. Each time I tried the clicker over the following year met with the same result. I finally had to stop trying it. It was just too loud to use indoors with a small dog. Even though he is usually fine with other noises ( vacume cleaners, other dogs barking, squeaking toys, alarm clocks, my father's ridiculously loud snoring) He was never able to tolerate this clicker. Granted it would probably work great outside for agility training with large dogs. (which is why I gave it 2 stars) The very fact that it is so loud it would terrify smaller dogs is a bit ridiculous. And reading the reviews it doesn't seem to be only this dog. If you are considering ordering this clicker, make sure your pet isn't scared or startled by loud noises before you order this product.
