Excellent! November 13, 2007 Gustavo J. Doble (Juncos, PR United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Excellent book. My dog just delivered 8 healthy puppies. I had read the book several weeks earlier and kept reffering to it as the whelping approached. It directed me all through the process and I learned many things that helped me avoid what would have been costly mistakes.
The Other "Must Have" book for first time dog breeders October 19, 2007 L. McLaughlin (Texas Hill Country, USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is the best of the dog breeding books I bought when wanting to learn specifics about breeding my bitch. It gives time lines, what to expect when and also info on what to expect from the stud. I found this book to be very practical as it answered most of my breeding questions.
Very informative (4.25 *s) August 24, 2007 One Man's View (Lawrenceville, GA USA) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Very informative concerning dogs in general, but especially all aspects of breeding and a dog's reproductive system, both male and female. More specifically, covered are heat cycles, mating, pregnancy, nutrition, delivery, lactation, puppy neo-natal care, and weaning. Complications and illnesses at each stage are also covered, as well as when a vet should be consulted. The cataloging of diseases and complications can get a little tedious. One is left with the impression that there is a good deal to know about the breeding process with considerable possibilities for complications. But as the author says, it is in a dog's nature to have puppies. Most often the owner needs to stay out of the way and intervene if only necessary.
Great July 12, 2007 Becky Visco (TX USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This book is wonderful. Easy to read and great pictures! It explains everything. I hope to breed dogs some day and this is a good book to start with!
A very nice help. June 14, 2007 Redwood Siberians (Raeford, NC) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I would like to have had a bigger section on the puppies after the whelp instead of having to find another book that compliments this one. The book is a great start but you need to cover more information than what this book covers alone. I've used it with neighbors who suddenly find themselves with a litter of puppies and don't know what to do. Breeding is more than having a litter to sell. It is about breeding the best stock that you can find and loving and caring for them like they are your own children. Breeding is not for the faint of heart. -S
