What a waste December 14, 2008 Lindsay Navarro (Pembroke Pines, FL) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I thought this book was more of a how-to. Except its not. He talks about his expierences but never actually breaks it down for you so you too can learn. The only How-to in the whole book was towards the end where he somewhat explains how to walk your dog on a leash. But that's it. So in all, DONT buy this book, its a true waste.
OK but not as good as Cesar's Way December 14, 2008 petzzz In the beginning of this book, Cesar explained how he tried to improve this book to suit his readers better, based on the criticisms he received to this previous book Cesar's Way, such as including more cases. But contrary to that opening, the book didn't really address what he said in the opening. On the other hand, I feel he lost his own style by trying to address different readers' needs and Cesar didn't really come out as well as from Cesar's Way. In result, compared to Cesar's Way which I stayed up late at night to continue reading because I couldn't stop, this one "Be The Pack Leader" didn't capture my interest enough. I stopped and started to read other books and went back to it later. I also skipped some chapters and went back later because the book seems to be jumping topics. Having said this, I'm still a big fan of Cesar and just purchased his next book and am looking forward to reading it. I hope he will hold on to his style and not try too hard to address every critism.
Very disappointing December 12, 2008 Twin Mom (ME, USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I started watching Dog Whisperer when we had an aggressive shelter dog and I needed pointers on how to handle him. I bought Cesar's Way to educate me about being the pack leader and learned a great deal from that book, and looked forward to this book. I was terribly, sadly disappointed. This book is mostly a recap of his show with only a few additional personal stories. I didn't get any new information. In the index he has a few pie charts on mastering the walk, which was helpful, but I would not recommend this book.
Cesar amazes me in a good way December 5, 2008 Joe B (Atlanta) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
At 62 and having Dogs in the family since I was [...], I'm obviously hooked on Dogs. I also love Cats. I've had good luck and less than good luck with Dogs. Some have been docile and eager to follow and others quite the opposite. I've always liked Cesar's Dog Whisperer shows on TV and have been amazed with what he does being gentle and respectful of Dogs. When I grow up, I wanna be just like him. My wife died after a long illness last year and her/our Dog Sammy died this past summer. He was 16 years old and a fear biter. She and I were the only people who could handle him and often, not very well. I adopted a 3 month old Puppy from an Animal rescue shelter. Being retired and having all day every day to be with Zoe who is a sweet little girl, I decided that I was gonna start off doing things the right way rather than guessing my way through it and taking advice from everybody who wanted to give me their input. I bought everything by Cesar I could get my hands on. Be The Pack Leader is one of them. I quickly discovered that the bad luck we had with Dogs in the past was not luck at all. Some Dogs fit into our personalities and others didn't. We didn't train and nurture the Dogs for their individual personalities like Cesar does. Cesar's methods not only work but also are extremely easy to follow and accomplish. Much easier than guessing your way through it and getting frustrated. Which also frustrates the Dog causing behaviour problems. It's NOT the fault of the Dog! It's the fault of the parent - you or me. If you want a happy and well adjusted Dog and be happy and well adjusted yourself, have actual fun training your Dog or Puppy, then follow Cesar's methods and advice. You and your Dog will be glad you did.
Cesar is our pack leader December 2, 2008 R. N. Hartman (TN) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
If you've watched Cesar then you know how amazing his message is. This book, when reading it, make you feel like he is narrating an episode in your ear. Its a wonderful book that breaks down the information into smaller segments so that you can focus on a particular subject and also allows you to get more detailed information on the subjects he teaches! LOVE IT
