4 out of 5 stars How Does a Film From 1987 Look Like in HD?   July 16, 2007

Great piece to have in your movie collection. It's amazing how good this films looks being from the late 80's. I've always loved this movie for it's scenes, one liners, soundtrack, props and stages, and actors. Watching this in HD gives more quality to the production of of the various scenes such as Al Capone's suite, liquor raids, and even the simple homes of the police officers. Since this is a period piece, it does not look dated but could have been made in a recent 21st century production. Sure some of the effects are kinda fake-o but what do you expect? The scene where the gangster falls from a building looks miles better than the dude from Transporter 2 falling from the sky.

The standard HD DVD features work such as scene access while watching the movie. But for special features, the menu button will stop the current playing spec. feature. This happens on my XBOX, not sure if it the same will happen on a stand alone player.

Only complaint I have about this film is Kevin Costner's acting. It's not great (or the same caliber as some of the actors in this film), but I didn't realize how flavorless and unbelievable his acting was.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome   July 13, 2007
Unbelievable acting by Connery, De Niro and Garcia and surprisingly, Costner. The plot flows without missing a beat. De Niro is so good playing the bad guy, you would wanna smash him with a baseball bat yourself.

Inspired by the 1950s TV series and scripted by David Mamet, this absorbing, operatic gangster flick--a box-office hit in 1987--explores the moral ambiguities of justice, and represents perhaps De Palma's finest moment in the director's chair. In a star-making turn, Costner excels as idealistic G-man Ness, schooled in the ways of the street by Connery, who deservedly picked up an Oscar for his superb portrayal of acerbic veteran cop Malone. With a teeth-clenching, tour de force shoot-out in a train station capping the action, "The Untouchables" is a nimbly directed, top-shelf period thriller.

This movie has action, mystery and hope. The story line twists and turns and has a few surprises. Its not for children under 13 due to the violence.

1 out of 5 stars Not the Real   June 6, 2007

I can't see how anyone can like this movie after seeing it. 1st off, Elliott Ness owes his success to Hollywood writers.Elliott did nothing to stop capone, Nitti, Paul (the waiter) Ricca or anyone else in the Chicago Outfit. Do your mafia history, The made up Character of Frank Nitti is just Disgusting. He was a respected, Feared mobster great in strategy although Paul Ricca directed them all. Capone was fared and very Brutal. Elliott Ness would never confront him like the movie showed. I watched this movie once and never opened it again, Please dont waste your money & time. For the real mafia lovers disreguard the people who left comments saying that they loved the movie.
