A Spectacular Movie March 17, 2007 2 out of 5 found this review helpful
Saving Private Ryan is an inspirational film filled with dyanamic battle-scenes, drama and action. During the opening scene into the storyline there is a fantastic 20-minute depiction of one bloodiest battles of WWII fought at Omaha Beach. Not only is it gruesome in its depiction of the thoughts of these soldiers who fought during this war but it also has an subplot filled with the notion of brotherhood. Tom Hanks performance was phenomenal as well as the rest of the cast which includes such notable names as: Edward Burns, Tom Seizmore, etc. Their performances work simultenously to make you believe in this mission: saving one man.
The storyline is simple, Captain John Miller (Tom Hanks) has been assigned a mission from the General George C. Marshall. The mission's objective: Finding Private James Francis Ryan from Iowa, whose 3 other brothers have been K.I.A. (Killed in Action). Conflict: Private Ryan is somewhere in Normandy. Where? No one exactly knows. Like Captain Miller says: "It's like finding a needle in a stack of needles."
Yet as they embark on this mission they are met with some obstacles along the way. Losing men as they go, many start to question the value of their mission and if saving one man is worth the lives of many others. It comes to a culminating end, one that might leave you with a tear or two.
If you love war movies, drama, or like the period itself, I highly recommend you go out and watch this movie.
awesome! March 11, 2007 1 out of 5 found this review helpful
this movie is a very realistic one. from the omaha beach scene to the last village scene! although the omaha beach sce was very very graphic, i still taught me that war is hell. the only nasty super graphic part is when that guy gets shot up and his intestines are falling out every where. great movie!
Tom Hanks like you have never seen him before March 9, 2007 0 out of 2 found this review helpful

Saving Private Ryan is an excellent war movie! The first 20 minutes are the most graphic and realistic scenes of war i have ever seen. Tom Hanks was great in his Oscar nominated performance as Captain John Miller, the man chosen to lead 7 men on a mission to find Private James Ryan (Matt Damon) whose brothers were killed in combat their misson is to bring him home, but the problem is, it will be hard to find one person out of the millions in the war and they do not even know if he is alive or not. This film is also masterfully directed by Steven Spielberg, who won a Best Director Oscar for his work on the movie. The horrors of battle that the soldiers go through are graphic and brutal and will never be forgotten, this is certainly one of the best war movies ever. MPAA Rating: R for Intense Prolonged Realistic Sequences of Graphic War Violence, and for Language
