These soldiers died for a noble cause December 31, 2006 1 out of 6 found this review helpful
The makers of Hamburger Hill not so subtly push an antiwar theme. Nonetheless, this is still an excellent movie. Many of our soldiers in Vietnam, regrettably, did not understand why it was necessary to fight the evil Communists. When push came to shove, they fought and died on behalf of their comrades and an ambiguous sense of duty. May God bless them. Those of us who never fought for our country are especially obligated to learn about their sacrifices.
The acting and dialogue in this film are superb. And yes, it is very brutal. Little is left to the imagination. Hamburger Hill is not for the squeamish. But that's why you should see it. There are times when our military personnel must be sent into harm's way---and we need to be morally confident that it truly is required. War mongering is not consistent with our democratic values.

Hamburger Hill February 23, 2006 7 out of 13 found this review helpful
At first, excuse my bad american language, I'm French living in Florida (married here) for only one year and a half... My husband is a veteran of Vietnam... the quality of this movie is perfect about colors, script. It shows the reality of that terrible war which has been controversial so much at the moment (like currently the war in Irak). This movie could be a good support (aid ?) for the youngest about the history of their country.
Ultra-Realistic Vietnam War Epic! February 10, 2006 11 out of 15 found this review helpful
This film really blew me away. The realism is astounding in it's attention to detail. There were several very powerful scenes, the friendly-fire incident, the tape recorder scene ( especially the ending to this scene), including some very powerful moments on the hill itself. This film ranks right up there with Platoon, Apocalypse Now, and Saving Private Ryan, and in many ways better! I think the main reason it has not received much attention is beacause you always feel a little distant from the characters for some reason.
This is a great Vietnam war film that is unbelievably realistic and originally done!
Better then PLATOON??? December 26, 2005 11 out of 15 found this review helpful
Many people will disagree, but I 100% enjoyed this movie, even more so than the highly over-rated Platoon. So why is it so good? Well, in short, because it's realistic, the acting is brilliant and the action is impressive...making this film great for repeated viewing. Ok, so some of the effects are a little dated e.g. when a soliders head is blown to shreads the bits of skull are obviously made of cheap rubber or plastic.
However it's the films unique editing style and camera work which makes it so good. It holds nothing back from the viewer, and at times the violence can be quite horrific. The only other under-rated movie which ever came close to the violence portrayed here is the almost un heard of The Last Hunter.
I would recommened this movie to any war film fan, or any film fan in general. It really is one that you should buy now and add to your collection.
bad Hamburger December 25, 2005 7 out of 32 found this review helpful
This movie gets 2 stars and not 1, only because the story is historically accurate. However, The acting, the photograpy and even the sound quality of this movie are all less than impressive. Try "WE WERE SOLDIERS" instead.
