Unbelievable Acting and Cinematography - downright depressing though September 23, 2006 ECU_Classic_Music_Fan (Charlotte, NC United States) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This movie is going to bring you down. That's a fact. But it's hard to deny this movie all the praise it deserves. A classic tale about men who served in one of the most treacherous environments ever known to man. It's also hard not to come out of this without a lot of respect for the germans who served in the U Boat service.
ONE OF THE BEST MOVIES I HAVE EVER SEEN!!!!!!!!! August 16, 2006 W. R. Whitlock (ILLINOIS) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
DAS BOOT HELD MY INTREST FROM BEGINING TO END. I FELT I WAS ON THE SUBMARINE. I USED THE ENGLISH SUBTITLES, BUT I FOUND MYSELF TURNING UP THE VOLUME TO HEAR THE GERMAN DIALOGUE. ADVENTURE, ACTION, AND SUSPENSE TRULY A GREAT MOVIE. SIX STARS TO THE DIRECTOR.
The true Das Boot August 1, 2006 Xantier M. Werner (Redmond, WA) 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
Das Boot is an amazing movie that any true war fan can appreciate. I finished watching it last night and couldn't believe it was over. Just to clear up any misconceptions, the UNCUT ORIGINAL is the longer version of Das Boot, running approximately 5 hours versus the Directors Cut which has had much of the movie content cut out for run time. The UO comes in a very presentable DVD case with sleeve-cover. The movie is shown on 2-DVD's which both offer an interactive menu for ease of use. Das Boot flew by amazingly fast - anyone who says the UO is too long to watch doesn't know what a real war movie is and would be better off watching a cheesy knock-off like U-571. The characters in Das Boot are given enough time in the beginning to introduce themselves to the viewer and I found several of them growing on me as I watched the movie. Special effects, such as explosions etc, are slightly lacking but nothing that distracts from the sounds and suspence found in this amazing movie. The soundtrack is quite captivating as well. Das Boot: UO is a very good buy, worth the extra few dollars for several more hours worth of this maritime thriller. A movie which any true war fan can and will enjoy. Just wish it was longer ;)
The Additional footage is well worth watching***** July 26, 2006 Ron (Southern California) 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
I recently saw the uncut 293 min version and was pleased to see that the additional footage added even more depth to an already amazing piece of film...you can read my original review of this film under the "directors cut" that I wrote yesterday, and whether you choose to believe or disbelieve what I referred to in my past is your choice.
Totally Realistic ***** July 26, 2006 Ron (Southern California) 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
Having had the experience of being one of the 1411 German U Boat Commanders in my previous life, and having died and been reborn into this life here in the U.S. all during the 1940s, this film depicts life aboard an unterseeboot (underseaboat) nearly as perfectly as was humanly possible for someone to accomplish three and half decades after the war ended and without the current phoniness of the current computer images which pervade the film industry and have for quite some time. This film even showed scenes which depicted that some of the Kreigsmarine (German Navy) were not at all impressed with how the Fuhrer (Guide) was running the country towards his imagined goals, which was a fact. The long running time of the film was neccessary so that everything that the director wanted to convey to his audience could be experienced. To miss this film is to miss out on reality...
