another miss by patterson April 5, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I felt for some time now that this was a series that long ago reached its apex. It is still a classic series if just for the first couple of books. But it is also a money maker and Patterson who treats his work as a money making venture would be insane to drop it only because he long ago lost insperation for this story.
What happens here is pretty much a fourth re-tread of long over used plot devices. One more time their is the obligatory romance occurring on the periphery. Once again, DC is hit by sensationalist serial killers and once again only Cross can save the day.
This story goes way over the top and is not worth reading. I take it that you have not made your mind up over getting this book due to the fact that you are reading this review. If this is the case, I highly suggest that you skip buying this title and instead focus on the first four or so installments in this series. Out of the dozens and dozens of books that Patterson has either written or co-written, the first couple Cross books are really the only ones worth sitting down with.
Patterson keeps the reader turning the pages April 3, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
With Double Cross, Patterson presents another intriguing tale featuring Alex Cross. The story starts strong and Patterson keeps the reader turning the pages - in part because the story is engaging and in part because of the blank space accompanying the transition between the large numbers of chapters. As someone who has read all of the Alex Cross books, the story had a strong sense of familiarity. While this is generally a good thing, one is left to wonder how much gas is left in the Cross tank. All-in-all, although not spectacular, this work will keep fans of Patterson's Alex Cross series happy. For those who have not read the previous Alex Cross novels, my recommendation would be to cover some of the earlier material before tackling this work. The substantial amount of material in this book that deals with Cross' family and home situation is clearly better enjoyed with the background of the earlier novels.
I loved it! April 1, 2008 I was done with this book in about 12 hours - one evening and then most of the next day (a weekend, of course!). Fast page turning was going on! I loved it!

Riveting story line. The entire series should be read as it provides a clearer understanding on the plot.
