I CANT BELIEVE IT BUT THIS BOOK IS NOT WORTH THE MONEY. I AM STILL TRYING TO FINISH IT. I USUALLY READ A CROSS BOOK IN TWO DAYS. THIS ONE IS TAING OVER A WEEK AND I AM STILL NOT DONE. FOR WHAT I PAID FOR IT I HAVE TO FINISH IT. BUT IS IS JUST BORING.
Double Cross December 6, 2007 Konrad Kern (OFallon, MO United States) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Rejoining the police force in the wake of a series of elaborate murders in Washington, D.C., detective Alex Cross, teaming up with his girlfriend and colleague, Brianna Stone, finds himself also working to outmaneuver the attention-seeking killer's penchant for inducing hysteria with increasingly sensational killings. BT James Patterson's criminals seem to get smarter and more evil with every novel. With his quick writing style and his propensity for a no slow down plot, you'll most likely enjoy and devour this latest Cross novel. NOT the best Alex Cross... December 5, 2007 avid reader (South Carolina) 10 out of 14 found this review helpful
I generally love all of Patterson's books, even those by his co-authors, but this one was truly disappointing. The plot was so improbable that I wondered if he was confusing Alex Cross and the bird-children. The action was also very contrived, boring, and predictable--murder for the sake of murder, etc. I'm sorry, but the motivation doesn't quite work, either. The characters were a total flop. Alex Cross does better work with Sampson than with his tough, new girlfriend. Alex does seem to fall in love very quickly! Bree's character could have stood some fleshing out. Kyle Craig didn't quite work as some mystical Hannibal-type. All in all, a big disappointment, when I was expecting a really good read.
On second thought, let someone else write it. December 5, 2007 Noel F. Keane (Colorado) 6 out of 9 found this review helpful
James Patterson should be ashamed of himself: surely he doesn't need the money. DOUBLE CROSS is right, we've all been double crossed. This book is same old - same old, with a smiplistic plot, the same characters, even the same crook, who is able to escape a maximum security prison in Florence, Colorado. (James Gotti couldn't, neither could the shoe bomber) Patterson didn't bother to explain a few things: such as why didn't he even attempt to protect his family when the crook promised to kill them all. And if I have to read one more - so called - sex scene with another woman, (why doesn't the sob get married - he keeps saying he wants to) I'll be sick. Go ahead, let someone write for you, James. Why am I reading this book? December 5, 2007 Marilyn S. Stark (Farmington Hills, Michigan United States) 11 out of 16 found this review helpful
As I read this absurd tale I am wondering why I continue to read it; it is beyond absurd, beyond even interesting but I keep reading it anyway. If detectives behaved in the Manner of Alex Cross the public at large would be in a boat load of trouble. I have to hand it to Mr. Patterson; he manages to keep the public riveted to his books even when they are as awful as this one is; Some of his books are really really terrific though and that needs to be said. Save your money and don't bother buying Double Cross or you may feel like you have been Double Crossed.
