It's All in the Attitude November 8, 2007 3 out of 6 found this review helpful
Excellent book. Teaches attitude rather than just "training". It works for many aspects of life. I like the tips Cesar gives - and the lessons from his own life. I have found that it works wonderfully with some of my friends dogs. I've had great dogs before - I did a lot right, but did learn some tips that I will use the next time. Well worth reading if you love animals.
YOU GOTTA LOVE THIS GUY November 6, 2007 11 out of 20 found this review helpful
You gotta love this guy. He's intuitive, he's sincere, he's the real deal. He doesn't sell out, he isn't distracted, he stays true to his mission, to help you understand your dog's instincts and needs, and to restore the natural balance of your world. If you've ever felt sincere but baffled about your pet's behavior and prayed for more harmony, this is the book for you. PS watch the show The Dog Whisperer too. It's great!
Beyond Good November 5, 2007 2 out of 10 found this review helpful
Be the Pack Leader is probably a superior book. I actually think that Cesar is so intelligent and so human nature minded that this book is actually way over my head. He explains everything exactly as he should, the only problem I have with it and he even states that it's hard to explain because I am one of those people who absolutely freak out at any situation with my animals. Having 6 dogs, which 3 of them have been together for over 4 years and do OK, but just having rescued two more dogs off the street, one of which is an adult Female Pit Bull who was pregnant when we found her running the roads with a (I assume previous) puppy. The female probably wasn't that aggressive except for the fact she was protecting "her pack" the puppy, when my husband tried to introduce her to my male NON AGGRESSIVE Neutered Pit Bull. Well the female attacked me Pit and that's all she wrote. I purchased Be the Pack Leader and another book from Cesar, but I cannot bring myself to be the pack leader. So until I grow some :>) Or until Cesar answers my plea's for help, I have the Momma Pit living in my fourth bedroom and she gets out after all my other dogs (including her puppy which I introduced to my dogs) get locked up.... CESAR if you read this I STILL NEED YOUR HELP, however your book is no doubt one of the best I have ever read. It's me that can't accomplish what you recommend.
How to create a joyful dog. November 5, 2007 26 out of 72 found this review helpful
This book is uninspiring. As a trainer, I look at the dogs that Mr. Milan has trained and see behavior suppression not joy, waiting for the other shoe to fall as it were. I work towards a joyful, happy relationship with my dogs - domination is not neccessary. A confident happy dog is relaxed, trusting and resilient, ears up and alert, tail wagging.
My inspiration comes from books by Patricia McConnell, Trish King, Pat Miller, Suzanne Clothier, Karen Pryor and Terry Ryan, not to mention my dogs!
Spend your hard earned dollars wisely look into these other authors first.
Loved It November 4, 2007 3 out of 14 found this review helpful
Just bought this book and after reading it thought it would be a great stocking stuffer idea for dog lovers ... which inspired me to create my own stocking stuffer idea list. Would love to hear your ideas. Here are mine, for what it's worth ... For Baby Boomers: "You Staying Young" For Students: "How To Ace You Way Through College" For Moms: "Deceptively Delicious" For Women: "Women & Money" For Men: "Quiet Strength" Happy Reading!
