4 out of 5 stars The Shiloh Shepherd Story: Against the Wind A Breed is Born by Tina M. Barber and Cinnamon Kennedy   July 13, 2006

Details the remarkable 40-year passage that began with one unwavering, courageous young woman, putting her complete heart and spirit, into the hopes of one day creating the ideal family companion dog, The Shiloh Shepherd!

The one and only Tina M. Barber, known fondly around the word as MaShiloh, is the Breed Founder of the majestic breed known as, The Shiloh Shepherd.

Tina honestly shares her exceptionally touching emotional moment in time, when she took a faithful leap into the unknown with God at her side, taking huge risk in losing everything she had built to date.

With colossal roadblocks amid her path, Tina courageously continues to prevail through each and every one of them rising out the continuous victor!

Not even the fire from Hell can stop this strong-minded woman from completely giving up and not reaching her ultimate destination, her own testimonial to the Lord, The Shiloh Shepherd!

The Shiloh Shepherd Story is a triumphing account of what great faith and belief it certainly takes to be able to reach out among the stars and pluck one, real miracles still happen, The Shiloh Shepherd!

I own two Shilohs (a retired medical service dog and a medial SD-in-training from New Zion Kennels).

I have read this book! The book is an excellent read and tells the story well about how Tina Barber created these awesome dogs.

Those who truely have read the book and knows more than a little something about dog breeding will especially find the book inspiring.

5 out of 5 stars Not just for dog lovers   June 1, 2006

Before reading this book, I figured that it was for dog owners or dog lovers. After reading it, I realized it is much, much more. I dare to say this is a heroine's journey. It entails triumphs, failures, personal and spiritual growth, faith, courage and perserverence. This book should be read by anyone who is chasing their dream. If you ever thought about giving up on fulfilling your destiny, READ THIS BOOK!!

5 out of 5 stars An objective opinion   May 4, 2006

Having been involved with gsds first as pets, then through watching the slow destruction of a noble breed through political animosity, then beginning my own breeding program, I stumbled apon the shiloh shepherd almost 5 years ago. I at first was drawn in by horror stories of this woman Tina Barber and believed the hype, thinking her nothing more than a woman using dogs to make $$$$'s. But thanks to my dogs who taught me to be a better more kind human being and not to judge without fact and seeing with my own eyes, I sat back and watched, and watched and what an eye opener! I modeled my own gsd breeding program off of Tina's blue print (some of my dogs have lines to her phenomenal foundation animals before they became a rare breed) but they are NOT shilohs. Shiloh Shepherds are Tina's , her vision, her work, her loss, and her passion, given from the Big Guy to her. She alone and Our Father deserve credit for the vision, I hope she and Lisa contine and see their dream realized. Funny is that when I looked to alot of the break off sites and registries, the dogs they use all have Zion or of Zion in the name, because Tina bred them! THAT in itself was another eyeopener for me and should be for everyone. You wont find a shiloh shepherd unless it says ISSR, and I think Tina's book shows a bit of her "real" side. I wish she would show that more to others. I personally have witnessed some amazing acts of loyalty and friendship from Tina as she stood beside friends she believed in regardless of what was done to her, never once letting on publicly to gain ego and pride. Behind the scenes, her work never ends. It was an excellent book done without name calling or ego, and eloquently written. I pray that the ISSR shiloh shepherd will succeed for future generations. It is a splendid animal. From the heart and soul of a passionate gsd fan, to a kindred spirit, I always wish you kindness and friendship.
Never give up.

5 out of 5 stars "An Inspiration"   May 3, 2006

A simple review turned into an absorbing read! It's chock-full of insight into both dogs and people. Tina doesn't mince words or overuse them. Her style is different but pleasantly straightforward, leading the reader into a story which reveals Tina Barber to be as unique, intelligent, and devoted as her Shiloh Shepherds.

She is unique in that, without a degree in genetics, she developed genetic research methods as efficient as any this breeder has ever studied. Intelligent in that she went beyond research and theory; she applied her method and insisted that, as a breed developer, her breeders also adhered to stringent record-keeping and selection criteria. "Devoted" seems a rather weak adjective to describe her unwavering loyalty to a single breed and a single objective.

Sustained by her Christian faith, Tina Barber endures enough trial, tribulation, and heartache to serve as a model to all who may feel challenged. The Shiloh Shepherd Story is a true adventure story and a compelling insight into human nature at its best (and worst). Did I mention emotional impact? It will bring tears to the eyes and joy to the heart of every dog lover!
