A must read... January 2, 2007 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
I felt very lucky to be on the list for a Shiloh before reading this book. Now though, when he/she is only weeks old and is romping around in his puppy world- I'll remember what a hard fight it was for him to be here. I'll remember that our pup was not the result of an accident, or even a logical breeding- but passionate vigilance on an uphill road that most of us would have passed by.
The Shiloh Sheperd Story a breed is born November 1, 2006 5 out of 7 found this review helpful
To truly understand how this magnificent breed came about, you need to read this book, you will get the knowledge and the inside look at the determination, dedication, and willpower it took for Tina Barber to begin to establish this breed, and to understand why her kennel "New Zion Shiloh's" is the only true pioneer in what today we call a "True Shiloh Sheperd".
Loved the book September 21, 2006 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
Loved the book. Shows what goes into the making of a new breed. It is funny, sad, and wonderful. Tina dedicated her entire life to these dogs and it shows. Her fight to keep the name Shiloh "pure". She has and still is trying to honestly make a difference with these dogs and it shows. She is not willing to accept "almost" as good enough. This book shows her road and the path she wishs to take in the future. Even if you dont have a Shiloh Shepherd (or any other dog) it is a good read.
Unique and Enjoyable ! September 9, 2006 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
Dog World Magazine, September 2006
As the memoirs of the creator of a breed, The Shiloh Shepherd Story is unique in the annals of dog literature. Though structured as an autobiography, it offers insight into a wide array of topics, including genetics and canine diseases, the history of the German Shepherd, dog-show politics and, of course, the history and character of the Shiloh Shepherd...Barber's Christian faith is at the heart of both her breed and her book...The Shiloh Shepherd Story is a story of faith, perseverance, persecution, and triumph. If you're curious about this breed, or if you want to learn from the experience of a veteran breeder or just want a story about a true dog woman, you'll enjoy this book. Easy, informative, inspirational reading with great pictures... August 12, 2006 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
This book is unlike any dog book, Christian book, or biographical book I have ever read - easy reading and wonderful pictures. I found that it touched on all aspects that one might experience on the roller coaster of life. I also found this book very touching - so much so that I didn't want to put it down. I wanted and needed to know what would happen next in the life of Tina Barber. The word "Shiloh" is Beautiful (even Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie named their child "Shiloh"!) as I have found the breed to be. I will keep Tina Barber in my prayers along with the Shiloh Shepherd breed. For only God knows how this will turn out. One thing I do know is that Tina Barber has been Blessed by God, as well as her Shilohs. Chapter Seven, "Out of the Ashes", stayed with me for a long time. It was very touching. Another good one was Chapter Eight, "The Serenity Prayer", a prayer for all of us to believe and pray. God bless! Nancy Waller
