Editorial Reviews:

Book Description
Written by the Trainer of President and Barbara Bush's dog (and author in her own right), Millie! All owners will find fun things to do with the family pet in this all-new book based on the sound training philosophy of Mary Ann Rombold Zeigenfuse, Millie's trainer. Without rules and regimentation, the book's format gives a built-in success formula by allowing owners to teach those tricks best suited to their pet. Owners can devise an individual Personality Profile for each dog, which allows everyone to have a choice of tricks. There are practical tricks to make the dog useful at home; simple tricks, to build a rapport between dog and owner; and cute tricks, great just for showing off. Full color and extraordinary original artwork throughout complement the easy-to-follow, step-by-step instruction, whether you want to prepare your dog for show biz or simply want to have some fun.

3 out of 5 stars didn't care for the format of the instructions   March 3, 2008
This book is cute but too wordy. The format for each trick did not work as well for me as much as The Idiot's Complete Guide to Dog Tricks. Glad I didn't pay much for the book.

I first read Captain Haggerty and CArol Benjamin's Dog Tricks TeachingYour Dog to be Useful, Fun and Entertaining and I then found this book which I did not think was as comprehensive as the Haggerty book, although it was a nice little book. In fact, I felt like with some tricks in this book they were coming straight from Haggety's book. The Haggerty book has a LOT more tricks too and are easier to follow. That is a classic.

5 out of 5 stars we like it so much   April 13, 1999

We just started to get through this book and we already like it! It gives us so much fun and helps make better relationship between me and dogs. Completely new approach to the dog training, with a lot of humour! I'll send my comments again, when we'll finish this book.

5 out of 5 stars Broken down into very easy to understand (& remember) steps   July 14, 1998

I first read "Dog Tricks: New Tricks for Old Dogs, Old Tricks for New Dogs, and Ageless Tricks...", and though I found it amusing and a little helpful, I ran into problems if my dog did not immediately pick up on the trick. That's why I purchased "Step by Step." It's broken down extremely well, helps you understand your dog and his learning ability, and therefore helps you teach your dog the tricks. At first I thought it a little repetitive, but found that the synopsis after the longer explanation makes it easy to go back later to double check what you're doing.
