Product Description A new york lawyer and his violinist girlfriend buy a mansion cheap then find it needs extensive work. Studio: Uni Dist Corp. (mca) Release Date: 03/04/2003 Starring: Tom Hanks Philip Bosco Run time: 91 minutes Rating: Pg Director: Richard Benjamin
Amazon.com Steven Spielberg produced this underwhelming 1986 effort at a slapstick spin on Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House. The pre-Oscar Tom Hanks stars with Shelley Long as a married couple whose efforts to finish construction on their home are sabotaged by costly and sporadically funny accidents. The unfinished domicile becomes a metaphor for their troubled relationship, as evidenced by Long's character's attraction to a madman violinist (Alexander Godunov). Hanks is the only reason at this point to check this film out. Richard Benjamin (My Favorite Year) directs but with no flair or distinction. --Tom Keogh.

This movie has had me laughing for 20 years November 30, 2008 J. Dykstra (Roswell, NM) This is a very good early Tom Hanks movie. At times it tries to turn into a movie about relationships, but the best parts are the gags about the house that turns into a nightmare. There are scenes and lines that will have you laughing until you cry. It is definitely worth owning a copy of this on DVD. It's the kind of movie you can watch many times and still enjoy.
Absolutely Hilarious!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! November 24, 2008 Garrett D'aquin This has been one of my favorite movies of all times since i was about [...] old. It is so funny and Tom Hanks and Shelley Long make a perfect duo in this film. it is a great movie for the whole family and I give it two thumbs up!!!
Love this movie!! September 1, 2008 J. Christensen (Austin, Texas) First of all, what a great comedy!! How many people get sucked into buying a home (thinking it's such a great deal) only to find out it will cost them more than buying an expensive home to begin with. I love Tom Hanks and his performance in this film was great once again. If you're looking for a good laugh and have had some fixer upper woes this is definately the movie for you!
Highly underrated June 3, 2008 G. Maisano (USA) This is one of my favorite movies and I cannot understand why it was dissed by critics. A lot of the comedy is slapstick, with collapsing stairs, flying Perdue chickens and "weak" trees. But in the context of rehabilitating the house, they can get away with it. This is a truly funny movie with none of the grossness that usually passes for comedy in Hollywood. And it is a must see for anybody who has ever rennovated a house. We are currently remodeling our home and use terms from the movie all the time from the "Shirk Brothers" to "anybody call a plumber?"
Carefree '80s comedy. May 12, 2008 ADRIENNE MILLER (TENNESSEE) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
The Money Pit starring Tom Hanks and Shelley Long was a childhood favorite of mine, I used to watch this film all the time but watching it now, it is dated and not that funny. Tom Hanks can make any horrible film moderately good, his comic timing is impeccable, he is a genius. There are some funny moments but mostly this box office bomb is pretty lame now, just watch it if you are a die-hard Hanks fan.
