improved coat, ears, smell, shedding, energy--you can get cheaper foods, but you end up buying supplements, like glucosamine, and chasing your dogs around to give them pills, etc. the big pieces also slow down the chow hounds. royal canine has all my sheps need. too bad royal canine does not make a mix for people.
the local pet store has royal canine, but the price ends up about $60 per bag with tax. to save money, you really need to buy more than one bag or wait for a shipping sale. earlier this month, a vendor had flat rate shipping, and i bought several bags.

My GSD loves Royal Canin and has been more enthusiastic about it compared to other brands. It is also the easiest on his digestive system of any food I've tried in his 8 years of life. I love that is has Glucosamine and Chondroiton to prevent issues with hips and other joints. I highly recommend this food unless you have the time and resources to feed your dog a raw diet.
