Product Description Distinguished by its stunning white coat and unmatched versatility, the White Shepherd is a direct descendant of the German Shepherd Dog. Although traditional German Shepherd devotees have shied away from solid white dogs, thousands of enthusiasts have embraced the beautiful, talented White Shepherd and established it as a breed unto itself. Whether on the farm, in the ring, in the water or in the home, the White Shepherd is an exemplary companion and competitor for the right owner.

Nice Book! July 22, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Having been the owner of a couple of American White Shepherds for well over 14 years, not to mention an avid 'lover' of the dog, I find fault with the review above. Of course the book is "written by fanciers" of the breed. Most dog breed books are. That is no surprise! As for providing "little information regarding the 'genetic frailty' of the breed", American White Shepherds have no distinct genetic defaults in comparison to their colored counterparts. They too can suffer from the same genetic problems that any German Shepherd Dog would. What most people don't understand is that only difference between a GSD and an American White Shepherd, is their color. Unfortunately, they have just always been looked upon as a 'default' simply because of the color of their coat! Any American White Shepherd/GSD owner would enjoy this book.
No Balanced View Here June 29, 2008 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
I Foster German Shepherd Dogs who have been surrendered by their Owners for whatever reason. While very familiar with "Black and Tan" GSDs, I have no experience or background with White GSDs. I bought this book to gain some knowledge regarding White German Shepherds, who have a troubled reputation in the industry. This book appears to be written by fanciers who love the breed blindly and provide little information regarding the genetic frailty of the breed. While it is always nice to read a "fanzine", this book did not provide the balanced information that would have been helpful to me. I am still looking. Current Foster Owner
