  • Special requirements

Professional breeders and trainers provide proven and valuable advice with simple tips to ease a puppy's transition to its new home, games to play with dogs as they develop, and how to spot health problems.

  • Rottweiler: loyal protector
  • Jack Russell Terrier: the most popular terrier
  • Border Collie: the active, independent dog
  • Labrador Retriever: the friendly and funloving working dog

4 out of 5 stars Good Basic Book   September 5, 2006
3 out of 3 found this review helpful

This is a good basic book to learn about the German Shepherd breed in 80 pages or less. The pictures alone will convince you that this dog is not only beautiful but intelligent.

There is a brief history here about GSDs. The author clearly loves the breed (as do I) and has the credentials to support his opinions and recommendations. I also appreciated the information he provides about health issues beyond the usual complaints of hip dysplasia.

There are clearly other books written in more depth about training and feeding and no one should expect this book to do more than provide basic information on those subjects.

The dogs pictured also seem to be more the dogs bred for show rather than working dogs and there is not much discussion about the difference.

All around it is a good little book for someone interested in learning about the breed.
