Product Description I decided whether you lived or died. That was my job. "I was at the forefront of planning, organizing and carrying out the deportations to the concentration camps. I submitted recommendations to Superior Officers regarding the most cost effective and efficient methods to utilize in the camps to ensure the maximum number of executions on a daily basis. I participated in the killings of civilians and Jews conducted by Einsatzgruppen Units in the Ukraine and continued to offer proposals on means to expedite the process. I have killed with ruthless disregard for humanity. I ordered young German soldiers to kill with ruthless disregard for humanity. I personally authorized favorable reports on the use of Zyklon B as a gassing chemical and personally pulled the trigger of a machine gun to shoot civilians on the snowy steppes of the Ukraine. I hanged Polish, French and Dutch civilians during summary and reprisal executions. I am a criminal."

ficition book passed off as history September 5, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this book and was disappointed at the numerous inaccuracies and "tall tales" found therein. If this story is to be believed, a simple SS Major met almost the entire cast of characters of the holocaust and travelled extensively throught the great expanse of Russia and Europe during the war. I have read the various reviews here and understand that the author himself, or friends, may be assisting him in keeping his "star" ratings as high as possible and (more importantly) trying to shout down anyone who "dares" to state that the book is fiction (after all, the author's credibility is in question). But Harker and his friends seem to have done a good job of ridiculing and chastising any complainers or critics - simply because he can just continue to attack his detractors without having to prove anything. So arguing here is like going to bed with a child - you're bound to get wet and smell bad. But this aside, the book is FICTION. Harker and pals can scream until they are blue in the face, but it does not change the fact that he has written fiction and has passed it off as history. SAVE YOUR MONEY FOR REAL HISTORY BOOKS!
A total hoax August 18, 2008 3 out of 7 found this review helpful
This work, with all the numerous errors, significant omissions and lack of verification as already detailed by other reviewers, strikes me as nothing but a continuation of 1940s style party line propaganda and a rehash of all those Soviet-Bolshevik-Bolshevist fake German 'confessions' of the post-war period. And it's confusing because the name Schiller is predominantly Jewish. Btw, Soviet was the government, Bolshevik was the party, Bolshevist is German, and Communist is the later term--fairly interchangeable in most contexts. Don't get too teary-eyed while you're being manipulated--there's more to the real story.
Fanciful story, Probably a compilation of many officers. July 31, 2008 7 out of 12 found this review helpful
I will start by simply stating that the author of this book is quite talented with his style of writing. I enjoyed the tone and the flow of his structure.
However, it cannot be ignored that from the very beginning this story seems to be that of a person who happened to be in all the right places at the right times. Except the fact that some of those right times are slightly inaccurate, and at times vague.
The best way to describe this man's story is to ask you to rent the film "Forest Gump" (a fictional tale of a man who experiences the very highlights of late 20th century American history). This man, if indeed his story is true, would be the Nazi German equivalent of Forest Gump. But I am saddened to say that I believe this story to either be a mostly exaggerated tale of a simple officer's life, or a complete fraud. Maybe the answer lies in the truth that this could be a compilation of a dozen or so people, each morphed together for the simplicity of writing. I am rather disturbed to see though that someone would go through the tedious research and effort to write or compile a book, passed off as an insider's look at history, which so blatantly deserves the mark of "Farce".
I would suggest that anyone interested in knowing what really was going on in the minds of the German people, and the structure of the process of handling Jews and other state criminals in Nazi Germany look elsewhere and save yourself the eyebrow raising of a very well written story of fiction.
Nice fiction July 26, 2008 6 out of 11 found this review helpful
Sadly, after reading his book I became suspect of its historical accuracy, and thus went on the net to research a few things. I have read many memoirs, but I find most interesting that Mr. Schiller was apparently sentenced to 30 years, instead of shot or executed like most of the officers sent east into Russia or Poland. And, assuming it is true that he really got 30 years, when did he get out, what happened then, and why is there no prologue or reference in the book at all about this matter? This of course overlooks the numerous historical inaccuracies noted here and elsewhere. It is a great read, would make a great movie, but sadly, I feel duped by its representation as a memoir. Mr. Harker has done a great disservice to all those survivors of the holocaust, as well as history itself, by representing this book in this manner. This simply fuels the fire of the holocaust deniers. No doubt at all it happened, but this particular work is a fraud. Research for yourself and you will find a mountain of data indicating his work is a fraud.
A Must Read About The Holocaust June 5, 2008 7 out of 18 found this review helpful
First and foremost it must be mentioned that Feldgrau.com is responsible for a vindictive campaign to destroy the credibility of this book and Honor Denied. All the 1-Star reviews you see here have been generated by Feldgrau.com members operating in concert with "Ornebridges" who has also posted reviews on this book AND Honor Denied while openly revealing false and libelous statements about the compiler and author. Ornebridges "claims" to be a "Feldgrau.com Manager" but a review of his "true" credentials can be openly seen on a simple paragraph on projectgermanveteran.com
Directive 19 is more than a memoir. It's one of a kind in that its author states he was an active servant of genocide. This book tells you the mechanics and administrative details of how the Nazis destroyed millions of people. It discusses the involvement of businesses and industries that supplied the machinery for the death camps. It tells you how the camps were conceived, designed, run and used for their purpose of liquidation. And that only scratches the surface. Directive 19 is full of personal, intricate details told from the perspective of a man who not only carried out these actions but also served 30 years in prison for these horrendous crimes.
Of course there are those who don't want you to read this book. There are those who are intentionally posting 1-star reviews of this book because they'd prefer you don't learn these details about the Holocaust. Because this book helps prove the Holocaust and goes against those who deny it. Make your own judgment. Read through the comments posted under the reviews here and see for yourself how Michael D Miller of the Axis History Forum is slurring a Rabbi, women and the mentally ill. Read their comments about how they claim this book is a fake. Read challenges placed upon them to prove their claims and then read how they can't back up their ludicrous remarks.
Directive 19 is about the career of an SS officer who had an active role in the Holocaust. There's no denying the facts in this book. The Holocaust happened no matter what the Axis History Forum and Feldgrau forum members would like you to believe.
