Product Description
One of the most intelligent, versatile, popular breeds of dog in the world has also been Hollywood's top dog for nearly ninety years. WONDER DOGS profiles feature films starring German Shepherd Dogs from 1921 to 2010. Including major Hollywood blockbusters as well as obscure independents, Jordan Taylor goes behind the scenes with dogs and films from around the world, bringing their stories to life in ways that will intrigue dog and film lovers alike.

Taylor shines a light on evolving technical, aesthetic, and social sensibilities through the decades. Her eloquent narrative covers many aspects of the business: How the introduction of sound to film impacted animal performers: Training methodologies and treatment of canine actors: The use of the dogs as agents of propaganda during wartime. In an industry known for its cutthroat and political past, the facts are often hilarious, at times disturbing, and always fascinating.

My German Shepherd saved my life when I was twelve and a man tried to attack me. Since that moment I promised myself I would fight my way through life and never be a victim again. As an adult I became a police officer and rescued 7 shepherds off the streets. I love German Shepherds more than life itself. Besides the book I wrote about my beloved shepherds this is my favorite German Shepherd book! When It Reigns, It Pours (Dog Tales)

It is, at present, the definitive book on the role of the German Shepherd Dog in films. Gives the significant details about the movies starting in the 1920s through to this present decade. Well researched and adequately illustrated. You'll enjoy the anecdotes. Recommended for the animal film enthusiast.

This is a wonderful book for anyone interested in the history of German Shepherd dogs in film and the diverse roles they have played from the 1920's up to the present time. The movies are summarized with interesting detail. Especially unique is the information on the trainers, descriptions of some of the dog stars and their lives outside film. The book is organized in a way that makes it easy to select the film that you want to rent.
