Product Description Training the German Shepherd dog begins with praise and other associative learning methods. The author advises owners on setting realistic goals. As part of the Training Your Dog Series you will be taught just that; how to train your dog, with special emphasis on your special breed. Virtually every aspect of training is covered, including housebreaking and paper training, basic obedience, teaching the animal to obey both verbal and hand signals, retrieving and walking on a leash. Also covered are humane methods of breaking a dog's bad habits, such as begging, jumping on people, unnecessary barking, and biting. Each book is filled with instructive full-color photos. Other breeds featured in this Series are the Labrador Retriever and the Rottweiler. Paperback / 176 Pages / 6 1/2 x 7 7/8 / 1999

For GSD Onwers. March 5, 2010 L. Gonzalez (TEXAS,USA) This book is good to help people that want to own a German Shepherd Dog. It covers almost everything you want to know about the breed. It teaches how to train your dog for many things, from helping others to police work.It also easy to read and understand. And if you want to teach your dog some fun tricks it's all there in training your German Shepherd.
This book is just 'ok' February 28, 2010 Robert W. Anderson (Chicago) If you are looking for a good, general book for training your german shepherd, I recommend you buy elsewhere. This book is very watered down and not very helpful. Also, the author spends too much time on concepts like show training that most of us won't utilize.
Good Training for German Shepherd February 17, 2010 Barbara Jo Scales (Texas) I bought this book based on other recommendations on your website. It is just as recommended. My husband doesn't care much to read long, complex training manuals. He read this one, though, and he uses the instructions daily!

First need to train the owner of the GSD August 1, 2008 I. I. Solar (Valparaíso, Chile) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I liked this book. It contains lots of good tips on how to educate a GSD. I also enjoyed the many good pictures of GSDs displaying their traits and showing their skills. However, one can follow the advice, attempt to teach the lessons, ask for obedience, beg for mercy, but if the dog wants to follow the car, jump on the cyclist, tear your shirt or hide your socks, he WILL DO IT!! Perhaps I did not pay enough attention to all the details about training, or Bronco (my GSD) has a heart the size of a mountain, capable of expressing immeasurable and unconditional love, plus the strength of a locomotive and the will of bull, but he has proven to be nearly untrainable. He's quit hiding my socks, but I already gave up on things such as "search and rescue" training. Forget also about "bomb and weapon detection". I guess I cannot blame Dan Rice's book.....
