Product Description

This is the true story of an abandoned puppy that was rescued by NBC's Today show correspondent Jill Rappaport. Jill named him Jack, and together they lived on a farm. Life with Jill was grand, all right! Jack spent his days running through fields, digging holes, playing with the horses, and chasing deer. But one day Jack's leg started to hurt. When Jill took him to the vet, she received bad news. Jack had bone cancer. In order to beat the disease, Jack's hurt leg had to be removed. Would life with only three legs be as grand as it was before?

Jack & Jill is the story of a brave dog and his loving owner making it up the hill together. Told from Jack's point of view and with beautiful photographs by Linda Solomon, the message of hope in this book will inspire children and adults alike.

5 out of 5 stars A tail for all.   July 27, 2009

Jack and Jill: The miracle dog with a happy tail to tell by Jill Rappaport is more than a story about the author's dog. Jack and his family serve as role models for the American family of today. Jack's multi racial family -brothers, sisters and cousins -are an amalgamation of rescued dogs and cats who form a supportive family unit during a time of family crisis. Jack's battle with cancer leaves him looking different than everyone else when his leg must be amputated to save his life. Despite his disability, his family welcomes him and he resumes his wonderful life on the farm he calls home.

The wonderful animal photographs of Jack and his family, by the author's sister, Linda Solomon, makes this book appealing to children, but the story is a "tail" of hope for any family suffering from adversity in the modern age. I highly recommend this book to all families, especially animal loving ones.

5 out of 5 stars This is so inspirational   May 25, 2009

Everyone who has or is thinking about getting a dog should read this inspiring book to see the kind of love and attention that our companion animals should receive every day. I cringe when I think about the hundreds of thousands if not millions of animals that are left alone all day - no fields, walks, toys or companions....

Thank you, Jill, for talking about how you rescued Jack. After reading Jack & Jill, I rescued a mutt named Bobo at the Humane Society of NY. Bobo and I are happy as can be, and I'm proud to have freed a dog from a lonely life in a cage. I hope that your readers will walk away pledging to rescue rather than buy their next companion animal.

With this wonderful little "tail", Jill Rappaport has provided a huge dose of inspiration on many levels. One need not even be a dog lover to understand that the power of love and compassion can get us through the toughest times and by opening up our hearts, everybody wins. What a loving and intelligent tribute to adored pets everywhere and what a wonderful gift to give the people we love whether they have shared similar experiences or not! Bravo Jill and thank you!
